When does a better future justify violence in the present?
We are often told that the freedoms and rights of the present are a product of the violence or civil unrest of the past. Yet most of us would never advocate violence or civil unrest on behalf of the political projects we feel passionate about in the present. Why is this? What made the political injustices of the past worthy of violence and civil unrest, while our current political squabbles are best suited to polite political deliberations and the rule of law? When are political violence or civil unrest ever justified?
